Hi Laurens, we purchased our first dog at Joeka Pet Home on Zhu Hui Rd. (about 300-500m east of the Zhu Hui Rd. and Nan Yuan Rd. N. intersection). They're great. Here's where they are on a Google Map.

My wife asked if we could get a puppy... I think I'm better off with house plants. I have enough trouble remembering to feed myself.

@Stuart: Haha, cheers m8.

@AL: ALWAYS a good thing!

@Shaun: Yeah, well aware of the hair thing - as mentioned, I had a golden when I was younger. Fortunately, living in China you can't go too long without sweeping/washing the floors anyway. Lint brushes are high on my list of things to track down here.

I've heard of that issue with hip displaysia. When she's a bit older, we'll likely get her x-rayed to see if she's afflicted. I've read up as much as I can about it and at the first sign of trouble we'll be starting her on glucosamine sulphate (or Cortaflex).

Goldens are great dogs and I've had first hand experience helping to raise and care for a female one. They make great companions and depending on the temperament of the puppy's parents they usually stay in that puppy stage of playfulness until they are 2-3 years old. So, keep your strength up. You'll need it just to keep up with Addie and to keep her busy.

Good luck with the fur too. It can be tough for some to get used to, especially since goldens seem to shed constantly. My wife can't seem to get used to it.

Not to sound like a pessimist, I love goldens, but keep your eyes on her knees. The breed has a tendency to have problems with hip displaysia. My parents' golden ended up having to go in for surgery, once for each knee and is now not allowed to do anything that could lead to stress on her knees. It was a very expensive thing to have done, but once they steal your heart it's tough not to help them when they're hurt.

I guess the best reason of getting a female golden is later she won't try mark your computer as her territory.
