This is why I don't mind when "elite" people with respectable education backgrounds run for public office. She makes Dan Quayle sound like a genius.

@Luke: Watching people in embarrassing situations makes me feel hugely uncomfortable. It was painful to listen to Palin be made a fool of with that Nicolas Sarkozy gag.

And if it was just you or me, I'd say the people doing the picking-on were just assholes. I mean, who are we? But when you're one elderly Maverick away from being the most powerful person in the world - able to create war or annihilate any country on the planet - public scrutiny, overly harsh or not, is an absolute must.

I'm sure that as a person, Mrs. Palin is an alright woman. I might not agree with her politics, but that's never stopped me from liking other people. But as a person with power, shivers... cold, sweaty shivers.

I always hate to see people getting beat-up for their lack of public speaking ability. I make bigger mistakes than that talking to a group of twenty. I shudder to think what I would say under that kind of pressure.

@Kellen: That's not what she said, and she's got every reason to be clear on the point.

@Nik: I agree - if it's an extremely sensitive or dangerous thing, I understand the "anonymous source" thing, but in this situation - the news outlets are selling rumours. It's sad. That aside though, she sort of validated their claims, accredited or not, with her rebuttal.

I think these stories from American newspapers are ridiculous, an unnamed source supposedly has said these things and we have no way of knowing if they are even true. What ever happened to the standard of print media where you needed 2 confirmed sources? I really have to wonder if these things ever happened or some staffer thinks Palin hurt MCCain so he or she is "getting Palin back" for hurting his or her candidate. Just my thoughts as an Obama supporter.
