Hey Helen, ouch.

I would head over to the Kowloon hospital in SIP and get one of the better doctors (you pay like 10RMB more to get a full-on experienced doctor). Barring that, I'd suggest taking the 30min. trip to Shanghai and checking in with one of the better hospitals there. That's a long time for any infection.

HI Ryan,

Pretty much had the same thing happened to me.

Left leg and foot infected, not sure how. 23 days of IV's at No1 Hospital, last 10-14 days twice per day.

Just like you I also have an aversion to needles and getting stuck.

However now the infection has gone "well I hope so" it seems to have inflamed the varicose vein system in that leg and foot.

They say there is no one in that hospital that is good with varicose systems, a bit weird.

So maybe you might know of some other place I could go and get some advice. get the leg and foot checked out.

 Thank you in advance

They tell me I should get it checked when I get back to Australia, however that will be another 4 weeks.

I don't know how many times I've heard Dr. Bethune's name mentioned since I arrived to China. They love him. Maybe moreso since I am in Nanjing.

Older Chinese were also forced to read that essay quite a bit back in the day according to my 奶奶 and 爷爷.

@Chris: Pretty much. Grabbed some generic (HK-brand) amoxicillin and will finish those up today - but yeah, seems pretty much back to normal.

@Gab: Yup. Did you see the caption? Click the photo. I don't know why it looks like that. I can't remember what he was saying, but he was most definitely far too nice to hit anyone.

Actually, in my younger days I often donated blood. It's only been in recent years that I wasn't able to as there are rules in Canada about having to wait a year after getting a piercing or tattoo... this last decade has created few windows of opportunity for me.

Now, being in China, giving blood is just not something I'm interested in doing unless I know exactly how/where it's being used.

The blood industry in China is almost completely for-profit, and as I don't trust Chinese business practices at the best of times, I'm hardly about to let someone trying to expand their margins as much as possible stick me with something.

So after all of those IV drips, I presume you will be up for giving blood and the local donor clinic??
