Hey mate good read and your story does have a familiar tone to it, something the other loawais over here can relate to. Although I do have an underlying reason to be sending you this msg, Ive been in China for a while now and because of the olympics i have over stayed my visa, I'm leaving Dalian for Korea by boat in the coming week and I want to leave the country with minimum hassles. I'm aware of the fine and will have to pay and it's all good just want it to go smoothly. If you could point me to a friendly and understanding PSB office in Dalian where I could bat my eyelids or work some charm your help would be so appreciated, cheers.

Sounds like quite an adventure. Never liked making dumplings all that much...just enjoy eating them. Glad everything went well for the visa.

Between the horny dogs, crazy taxi-drivers and casual racism, your trip to Dalian sounds like a 1970's British sitcom. Anyway, welcome back to SZ!

"With only limited seating available when we bought the tickets, I was confined to the top bunk in the sleeper train..."

Space is pretty limited up there; you did well to escape three times. I guess that's where the yoga comes in handy.

Lovely post - reminded me of so many incidents (travel, taxis, police, visa etc) in China.

You got.... (fingers stumbling in pseudo-rage over the keyboard, and spluttering to self) a 1 year visa ? "infinitely renewable visa".

You have God on your side. T'wasn't so long ago you were wringing your hands in despair about your miniskirt visa.

Welcome back to the 'Zhou, and a 12 month walk-around with relative impunity. I guess Maggie's home town has a more "Son of Dalian" approach, which demonstrates enormous flexibility. I get the gimlet, well not really.

Does that imply that your next excuse to visit Dalian and your friends up there is purely for "Administrative reasons" ?

Me, being a "Son of Anhui" in Suzhou for a visa gets about as much sympathy as roadkill. However, we prevail, with appropriate contacts - and very, very nice & pleasant chat.

Bugger about the Cabbie, I tend to avoid 5-0 but it's never happened to me - yet.

Glad to hear everything's fine mate. Your Blog is great, 5*.
